We’re Back and Bigger Than Ever: The Relaunch of Locals Magazine
After a few quiet years, we’re proud to say it — Locals Magazine is back. And not only back, but refreshed, refined, and relaunched across New Zealand.
If you’ve picked up a copy before, you’ll remember what makes Locals special: real stories, local faces, and a down-to-earth format that celebrates everything about life in your region. Founded to highlight and support small businesses, creative communities, and grassroots initiatives, Locals Magazine has always been about connection.
But like many great local projects, we faced tough decisions during the COVID-19 pandemic. With widespread disruption to printing, distribution, and retail, continuing in our original format became unsustainable. We hit pause — but we didn’t give up.
Fast-forward to now, and we’re proud to relaunch Locals Magazine with a new approach that combines the best of our past with smart new systems to support the future.
What’s New:
Now available NZ-wide via The Warehouse exits across the country
Fresh regional editions every 6 months
Streamlined and automated systems behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly
New print and design options for businesses — making it easier than ever to get involved
Vibrant new layout, including our revived cut-out voucher section — back in print by popular demand
What Hasn’t Changed:
We still feature real local stories, written by and about people in your community
We’re still passionate about boosting small and local businesses
We still believe print isn’t dead — it’s just waiting for the right kind of content
We’ve modernised our operations so that we can do what we do best — connect readers with the people, places, and businesses that make their region special. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or discovering Locals for the first time, we’d love to have you along for this new chapter.
Stay tuned for your local edition — starting with Canterbury this season — and join us as we build something local, meaningful, and lasting, right across Aotearoa.
