MADE North Canterbury
Telling our provenance story
As conscious consumers, our desire to buy local food and beverages has significantly escalated in recent years. More than just a #shoplocal feelgood hashtag, we are increasingly seeking knowledge of where our food comes from, how it was grown or made, what is (or isn’t) in it and who exactly, our hard-earned dollars are going to when we purchase. We want authenticity, quality, traceability; we want the provenance story.
Fortunately, the North Canterbury region is an abundant food basket with its very own provenance brand. MADE NORTH CANTERBURY was launched in 2020 by Enterprise North Canterbury after a study found that North Canterbury’s food and beverage producers wanted a unifying organisation that would offer opportunities in marketing, promotion and collaboration. And North Canterbury’s producers have come to the party, joining the MADE NORTH CANTERBURY community to connect, share and help drive the local provenance story.
Our mighty region is home to over 90 vineyards, vast beef/sheep/arable farms, forests rich with wild game, productive market gardens, orchards, nut groves, truffières, apiaries, rivers and coastlines full of kaimoana. MADE NORTH CANTERBURY sets out to tell the stories behind these bountiful resources and the people who grow and craft the local food and beverages that our region proudly produces. Additionally, the brand applies internationally-recognised provenance criteria to all members, ensuring products are made and grown right here in North Canterbury.
When consumers buy from a MADE NORTH CANTERBURY member, they are buying with confidence, knowing they are truly supporting a local business. Supporting a small local business means you’re engaging with your local community; you’re supporting a dream, a family and all that they give back to that very same community. Moreover, buying local means you’re getting super-fresh produce at its peak. You’re cutting out countless food miles and the need for long-life packaging and unnecessary additives. You, the food and the producer are all better off for your commitment to buying local.
MADE NORTH CANTERBURY member products are available at supermarkets, farmers’ markets, cellar doors, grocers and web stores all over the region and the country.
