Meet Scott Hobson

Life for soil – Soil for life.

I am a Lincoln Uni Ag-Science graduate trained in traditional nutrient thinking. I spent several years in banking and fertiliser sales. During overseas travel, my eyes were opened to the great need for agriculture to embrace principles that would be ‘good and healthy for generations to come’ plus feed growing populations.

It was clear the volume of fertiliser and agricultural chemicals being used was not sustainable - even for one generation – without environmental problems.

I wanted to start driving agriculture in a new direction. Most people saw only a choice between economics or the environment. I saw we could have both, but we had to change our approach.

I measured 40+ grass trials comparing fine particle application with traditional fertiliser. I promoted Albrecht’s theories. Farmers had - and still have - increasing issues with animal health, profitability, disease pressure and fertiliser/nitrogen use which were ultimately not sustainable.

I eventually learned soil micro-organisms could transform and ‘magnify’ plant growth and health, if done well. They could ‘tick all the boxes’ environmentally – plus be a more profitable solution for generations to come. More and more scientists and farmers are learning this.

My vision is to continue to help lead the way forward.
