Sought After
with Lisa Dooling
I’m Lisa. I was born and bred in St Albans, Christchurch but now reside in Pegasus after a few detours in Australia, England and Hong Kong. My story is about how passing comments can shape your life.
I am the founder of Sought – a business that assists people with downsizing, pre-planning and/or clearing deceased estates. Sought is a business that entirely reflects me as a person, I love a good to-do list, systems and processes whether at home or in the workplace are how I help to bring calm and control to stressful days/ situations. I love to help and knowing that I can help by using my skills and experience means I am doing the role I spent my time to date evolving to.
It sticks in my mind that these comments got me here…
‘It’s so sad to think of families in arguments over ‘things’ – don’t you ever do that’ said my mum when I was a teenager. As one of 5 siblings at that age I thought mum was being morbid and a little dramatic, but as I’ve matured and experienced life the truth of this statement is impossible to ignore. Mum – I absolutely don’t plan to ‘do that’ but I also recognise that stress and grief can make us do and say things that we don’t mean.
‘One day I hope you will follow through on one of your ideas’ – this from my husband who has listened to my wonderings and many thoughts about why such services/items/systems don’t exist. Throughout our years together Colin has been the person who has listened, encouraged and supported me looking into the ideas I have had.
‘I’m not ready’ the Hong Kong acquaintance who had to go home to the UK for the 3rd time in 9 months to clear her childhood home to prepare it for sale. This woman went on to say that she felt guilty about leaving her children and family, for taking time off work again and that she felt she hadn’t processed her grief enough to be ready to make the decisions needed to move through this necessary job.
‘I think you need to create your business idea, it’s a good one’ – my brother, during lockdown when we were both looking at possibly building a business together. He has gone onto do his own thing too.
It’s been an exhilarating and sometimes scary journey, but I here now and excited to be able to help.
